JESUS — MEDIATOR OF THE NEW COVENANT
How Jesus Is Preparing a People for God and His Kingdom
“Why did Jesus really come into this world? Was it only to die for our sins—or does the Bible reveal something much bigger? What does it mean that Jesus is the Mediator of the New Covenant? Why did God promise to write His law on our hearts? And what is Jesus doing today to prepare a people for God's Kingdom? In this teaching, we will follow the Scriptures from the Old Testament promises to Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and the coming Kingdom of God. And by the end, I want you to ask one very personal question: Has Jesus become a daily reality in my life?”
Dear brothers and sisters, welcome to God’s Will Church International. Today I want to speak about the person who stands at the very center of God's plan for humanity: Jesus Christ. Many people know that Jesus came into this world and died for our sins. That is absolutely central to the Gospel. But Scripture reveals an even bigger picture of what God is accomplishing through His Son. Jesus came from the Father. Jesus revealed the Father. Jesus taught us the truth. Jesus gave His life for our sins. Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus is the Mediator of the New Covenant. Jesus sends the Holy Spirit. Jesus is our Lord and King. And Jesus is gathering and preparing a people who belong to God. John's eyewitness testimony that the eternal life that was with the Father appeared in Jesus Christ, and that through Christ we are brought into fellowship with the Father and His Son. So today I want us to understand: Who is Jesus to you? Is Jesus simply someone you believe existed? Or has Jesus become the Savior, Lord, Teacher, Mediator and King of your life?
1. JESUS CAME FROM THE FATHER
Jesus did not begin His existence in Bethlehem. In John 17:5, Jesus speaks about the glory He had with the Father before the world began. And in John 17:8, Jesus says that His disciples knew with certainty that He came from the Father and believed that the Father sent Him. Then consider John 17:3:
“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
Eternal life is therefore not merely living forever. It is knowing God through Jesus Christ. Jesus came to make the Father known. He says in John 17:26:
“I have made you known to them…”
This is one of the great reasons Jesus came. He reveals God to us. The teaching strongly emphasizes this relationship between knowing Christ, knowing the Father, receiving God's Word and eternal life.
2. GOD THE FATHER TELLS US: LISTEN TO JESUS
Consider what happened at the Transfiguration in Matthew 17:1–5. Peter, James and John saw Jesus transfigured before them. His face shone. His clothes became brilliant. Moses and Elijah appeared. Then the Father's voice came from the cloud. And what did God say concerning Jesus?
“This is my Son, whom I love… Listen to him!”
Those final words are enormously important:
LISTEN TO HIM.
Christianity is not simply believing facts about Jesus. A disciple listens to Jesus. A disciple learns from Jesus. A disciple trusts Jesus. A disciple follows Jesus. And a disciple obeys Jesus.
3. JESUS CAME TO SAVE US FROM SIN
We cannot speak about Jesus without speaking about the cross. Humanity's deepest problem is not merely poverty, sickness, loneliness or lack of education. Our deepest problem is sin and separation from God. Romans 3:23 tells us:
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”
But the Gospel does not end there. Jesus came to save sinners. 1 Peter 2:24 tells us that Jesus bore our sins in His body on the cross so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness. Notice both parts: Jesus saves us FROM sin. And: Jesus calls us TO a new life. The cross therefore does not give us permission to remain willingly enslaved to the same sinful life. Christ died so that we could be reconciled to God and begin living as people who belong to Him.
4. JESUS IS THE MEDIATOR OF THE NEW COVENANT
This is one of the central messages of your teaching. Hebrews 9:15 calls Christ:
“the mediator of a new covenant”
And Hebrews 8:6 tells us that the covenant Jesus mediates is superior and established on better promises. But what is this New Covenant? We must go back to Jeremiah 31:31–34. Long before Jesus came, God promised a day when He would establish a New Covenant. God said:
“I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts.”
This is extraordinary. Under the New Covenant, God's desire is not merely external religious conformity. God wants transformation from within. Your teaching repeatedly connects Jeremiah's promise with Jesus as the Mediator and with the work of the Holy Spirit.
5. GOD PROMISED TO PUT HIS SPIRIT WITHIN HIS PEOPLE
Jeremiah was not the only prophet who spoke about this transformation. Listen to Ezekiel 36:26–27. God promised a new heart and a new spirit. Then God says that He will put His Spirit within His people and move them to follow His ways. This is extremely important. God does not merely say:
“Here are My commandments—now accomplish everything through your own strength.”
God promises to work within His people. This is why the New Covenant is so closely connected with the Holy Spirit. Paul calls it:
“the ministry of the Spirit”
in 2 Corinthians 3:8. And in the following verse he connects this ministry with righteousness.
6. JESUS PROMISED TO SEND THE HOLY SPIRIT
Before returning to the Father, Jesus spoke to His disciples about the Holy Spirit. In John 16:7–15, Jesus promises the Advocate. He says that the Spirit will deal with the world concerning: sin,righteousness,and judgment. Then Jesus says:
“when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.”
And Jesus says something else that helps us recognize the true ministry of the Holy Spirit:
“He will glorify me…”
The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus Christ. The Spirit does not lead us away from Jesus. He helps God's people know Christ, understand God's truth and live according to God's will. Your teaching directly connects Jesus as New-Covenant Mediator with this promised ministry of the Spirit.
7. RIGHTEOUSNESS BEGINS WITH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST
Here we need to make an extremely important distinction. We cannot make ourselves righteous before God through our own achievements. Romans 3:22 says:
“This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.”
Romans 1:17 says:
“The righteous will live by faith.”
Philippians 3:9 likewise speaks about righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. Therefore: We do not obey Jesus in order to purchase salvation. Salvation is God's grace. Jesus is our Savior. His blood cleanses us. Our confidence is in Christ. But genuine faith does not say:
“Now that I believe, I can deliberately continue living however I please.”
Paul speaks in Romans 1:5 about:
“the obedience that comes from faith”
This relationship between righteousness through faith and obedience flowing from faith is explicitly present in your notes.
8. JESUS SAVES US INTO A NEW WAY OF LIFE
Romans 6 is tremendously important here. Paul tells Christians: Do not offer yourselves to sin. Instead: Offer yourselves to God. Romans 6:18 says:
“You have been set free from sin and have become slaves of righteousness.”
Then Romans 6:19 connects righteousness with holiness. This means that salvation is not simply:
“My past has been forgiven.”
It also means:
“My future now belongs to Jesus.”
My body belongs to Jesus. My mind belongs to Jesus. My words belong to Jesus. My relationships belong to Jesus. My decisions belong to Jesus. My time belongs to Jesus. My life belongs to Jesus.
9. JESUS IS OUR TEACHER
Another major emphasis in your teaching is the knowledge and teaching of Christ. Colossians 2:3 says that in Christ are hidden:
“all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
And 1 Corinthians 1:30 describes Christ as wisdom from God and connects Him with righteousness, holiness and redemption. Jesus therefore does not merely forgive us and then leave us to discover life on our own. He teaches us how to live. This is why His words matter. His commands matter. His example matters. His knowledge matters. His wisdom matters. The Scriptures matter. Your notes connect Christ's wisdom and knowledge with righteousness, holiness, redemption and eternal life.
10. GOD'S WORD SANCTIFIES US
Listen to Jesus' prayer in John 17:17:
“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”
This is why Christians must know Scripture. We cannot say:
“I want the Holy Spirit to guide me,”
while ignoring the Word of God. The Spirit of truth will not contradict God's truth. 2 Timothy 3:15–17 teaches that the Holy Scriptures make us wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus and are useful for teaching, correcting and training in righteousness. Therefore: Read the Bible.Study the Bible.Believe the Bible.Obey God's truth.Allow God's Word to correct you.
11. JESUS IS BUILDING A SPIRITUAL HOUSE
Here your teaching develops a beautiful biblical picture. King David wanted to build a house for God. In 2 Samuel 7, God promised that David's offspring would build a house for His name and that his kingdom and throne would be established. This promise ultimately points beyond a physical building toward the Messiah and His everlasting Kingdom. The New Testament develops the image even further. 1 Peter 2:4–5 describes believers as living stones being built into a spiritual house. And Ephesians 2:19–22 says God's people are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone, becoming a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit. This strengthens the spiritual-house theme that is central to your notes. Think about that:
YOU ARE NOT MERELY ATTENDING A CHURCH.
If you belong to Christ, you are part of the people God is building together. The church is first of all not a building made of bricks. God is building people.
12. JESUS IS THE CORNERSTONE
A building depends upon its foundation. God's spiritual house has a cornerstone: Jesus Christ. If Jesus is removed, Christianity collapses. Our foundation is not a pastor. Not a denomination. Not a church organization. Not religious tradition. Not human philosophy. Our foundation is Jesus Christ. Everything must align with Him. Our beliefs. Our teaching. Our behaviour. Our worship. Our understanding of God. Our understanding of righteousness. Our hope of eternal life. Jesus is the cornerstone.
13. JESUS IS PREPARING A PEOPLE FOR GOD
This theme runs through the entire Bible. In Exodus 19:5–6, God speaks of His desire for a treasured possession, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. Then the New Testament applies similar language to God's people in Christ. Titus 2:14 says Jesus gave Himself to redeem us and purify:
“a people that are his very own”
And 1 Peter 2:9 describes believers as: a chosen people,a royal priesthood,a holy nation,God's special possession. Jesus therefore did not come merely to rescue isolated individuals. He is gathering a people for God. A people from different nations. Different languages. Different backgrounds. But united in Jesus Christ.
14. JESUS IS KING OF THIS KINGDOM
The Old Testament repeatedly promised a coming King. Isaiah 9:7 says His government and peace will have no end and that He will reign on David's throne, establishing His kingdom with justice and righteousness. Jeremiah 23:5 speaks about a righteous Branch from David who will:
“reign wisely and do what is just and right.”
Then Revelation declares Jesus:
“Lord of lords and King of kings.”
Your notes connect these promises of the Davidic King with the people Christ is forming into a kingdom that serves God. Therefore Christianity involves more than having a Savior. We have a King. And if Jesus is King, His followers live under His authority.
15. THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS A KINGDOM OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
Jesus says in Matthew 6:33:
“seek first his kingdom and his righteousness”
Paul says in Romans 14:17 that God's Kingdom concerns: righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. And 2 Peter 3:13 points toward:
“a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.”
Do you see the pattern? Righteous King.Righteous Kingdom.A people being transformed toward righteousness.And ultimately a new creation where righteousness dwells. God's plan is magnificent.
16. JESUS CALLS US TO BEAR FRUIT
Jesus says in John 15:8 that the Father is glorified when His disciples bear much fruit. He then commands:
“Love each other as I have loved you.”
This shows us what Christian righteousness looks like in everyday life. It includes: love, mercy, truthfulness, faithfulness, forgiveness, justice, compassion, purity, humility, obedience, and doing what is right before God. Jesus does not simply want religious words. He wants fruit. And the Holy Spirit produces that fruit in God's people. Read Galatians 5:22–25 alongside John 15.
17. JESUS UNDERSTANDS OUR HUMAN WEAKNESS
There is another truth worth adding here. Jesus did not merely observe human existence from a distance. Hebrews 4:15 teaches that our High Priest can sympathize with our weaknesses because He was tempted in every way as we are—yet He did not sin. This means when you struggle, you can come to Jesus. When you are tempted, come to Jesus. When you are tired, come to Jesus. When you have failed, repent and come to Jesus. When you do not know what to do, come to Jesus. He is not merely your King. He is also your merciful High Priest.
18. JESUS MUST BECOME A DAILY REALITY IN YOUR LIFE
This is perhaps the strongest practical statement in your original teaching:
JESUS MUST BECOME A DAILY REALITY IN YOUR LIFE.
Your notes describe Jesus personally as Savior, Mediator of the New Covenant, Priest and Teacher, King and Lord. That is powerful. Do not leave Jesus in history. Do not leave Jesus inside a church building. Do not leave Jesus for Sunday morning. Do not reduce Jesus to a cross hanging around your neck. Jesus must become real in your daily life. When you wake up: Jesus is Lord. When you make decisions: Jesus is Lord. When temptation comes: Jesus is Lord. When you deal with other people: Jesus is Lord. When nobody is watching: Jesus is Lord. When suffering comes: Jesus is Lord. When death eventually comes: Jesus is still Lord.
19. WHO MUST JESUS BE IN YOUR LIFE?
Let us make this very personal. Jesus must be: Your Savior — because you cannot save yourself. Your Mediator — because through Him you enter the New Covenant. Your High Priest — because He represents His people before God. Your Teacher — because His words are truth. Your Example — because we are being transformed into His likeness. Your Shepherd — because He leads His sheep. Your Cornerstone — because your life must be built upon Him. Your King — because you belong to His Kingdom. Your Lord — because He has authority over your life. And Jesus must be the One in whom you place your hope for eternal life.
20. SALVATION IS NOT A REASON TO BOAST
Never forget this. If you are saved, you cannot stand before God and say:
“Look what I accomplished.”
No. Romans 3 asks: Where is boasting? And answers: It is excluded. Christ is our righteousness. Christ is our redemption. Christ is our hope. The Holy Spirit is God's gift. The Word is God's truth. The Kingdom is God's Kingdom. Eternal life is God's gift. Therefore all glory belongs to God.
21. BUT GRACE CALLS US INTO OBEDIENCE
At the same time, grace must never become an excuse for deliberate sin. Jesus says in John 14:15:
“If you love me, keep my commands.”
And John 15:10 connects remaining in Christ's love with keeping His commands. This does not mean:
“Obey perfectly so that Jesus will finally decide to save you.”
It means:
“Because Jesus has become your Lord, learn to live under His lordship.”
Obedience is not the price we pay to purchase God's grace. Obedience is the fruit of genuine faith and love for Christ.
22. GOD IS TRANSFORMING US INTO THE IMAGE OF CHRIST
God's purpose goes deeper than simply changing a few bad habits. Romans 8:29 speaks about believers being conformed to the image of God's Son. 2 Corinthians 3:18 describes God's people being transformed into Christ's image with ever-increasing glory through the Spirit. And 1 John 3:2–3 points us toward the day when God's children will see Christ and be like Him. So ask yourself: Am I becoming more like Jesus? Not: Am I becoming more religious? Not: Do I know more theological vocabulary? But: Am I becoming more like Christ? More loving? More truthful? More merciful? More holy? More faithful? More obedient to God?
23. JESUS IS PREPARING HIS PEOPLE FOR ETERNITY
Our earthly life is temporary. God's Kingdom is eternal. Revelation describes Jesus as the One who purchased people for God from every tribe, language, people and nation and made them a kingdom and priests serving God. And Hebrews 12 points toward: Mount Zion,the heavenly Jerusalem,God the Judge,the assembly of God's people,and Jesus the Mediator of the New Covenant. The teaching connects Christ's mediation, God's Kingdom, righteousness and the heavenly Jerusalem as parts of one great biblical hope. Therefore: Do not live only for this temporary world. Your money will remain here. Your possessions will remain here. Your titles will remain here. Your physical body will return to the dust. But your relationship with God has eternal significance.
24. THE QUESTION IS: WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH JESUS?
God said at the Transfiguration:
“Listen to him!”
So the question is no longer merely: Do you know about Jesus? The question is: Do you trust Him? Have you received Him? Are you following Him? Are you listening to His teaching? Is He your Savior? Is He your Lord? Is He your King? Are you allowing His Word and Spirit to transform your life?
CONCLUSION — JESUS IS PREPARING A PEOPLE FOR GOD
Dear brothers and sisters, let us bring everything together. Jesus came from the Father. Jesus revealed the Father. Jesus proclaimed God's truth. Jesus died for our sins. Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus is the Mediator of the New Covenant. Jesus sends the Holy Spirit. Jesus gives us His Word. Jesus is building His church—a spiritual house made of living stones. Jesus is gathering a people for God. Jesus is King. And Jesus is preparing His people for God's eternal Kingdom. So Christianity cannot merely be something you believe intellectually. Jesus must become a daily reality in your life. And remember: We are saved by God's grace through faith in Christ. The faith that saves us calls us into a new life of obedience. The Holy Spirit works within us. God's Word sanctifies us. Christ transforms us. And God is preparing a people who belong to Him.
FINAL APPEAL
Perhaps someone watching this teaching knows about Jesus but has never truly entrusted their life to Him. Do not wait until another day. Come to Christ. Believe the Gospel. Turn away from sin. Trust Jesus as your Savior. Confess Him as Lord. Learn His teaching. Read His Word. Ask God to fill and lead you by His Holy Spirit. And begin walking with Jesus every day of your life. Because eternal life is not merely knowing something about Jesus. Jesus said in John 17:3:
“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
May we know Him. May we follow Him. May we obey Him. May His Spirit transform us. And may we become the people God desires us to be.
CLOSING PRAYER
Father in heaven, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You that through Him we can receive forgiveness, reconciliation and eternal life. Thank You that Jesus is the Mediator of the New Covenant. Thank You for Your Word and for Your Holy Spirit. Help us not merely to know about Jesus, but truly to know Him, trust Him, follow Him and live under His lordship. Transform our hearts. Teach us righteousness. Lead us into holiness. Make us living stones in Your spiritual house and prepare us as a people who belong to You. May our lives bring glory to You through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
